Founded in Athens, OH in 1967, the Tuba section has been the foundation of the Marching 110 for over 50 years.
We have withstood many changes to the section such as numbers on the field, to the instruments that we have
used. Currently the section consists of 16 Tubas on the field for pregame in the Diamond Ohio,
24 on the field for halftime and a total of 25 tubas including alternates and we march 3 valve silver
Conn Sousaphones.
We are well known in Athens for dancing to our Post game chart: "Long Train Running" by the Doobie Brothers.
The most recent Theater performance of this can be found on our music page, along with many other videos.
The tubas have had 2 field commanders in our history:
Clint Harris in 1999 and Nate Gilcher in 2001.
We also have 2 awards that we give out annually at the Marching 110 end of season banquet:
The Clint E. Harris Award and the oldest award given out at the banquet,
The Scott "Mother" Merill Award.
We are a proud section as well as the most patriotic section in the band.
Our 3 favorite things are America, Beer and Women, and we are all avid Browns Fans!
If you are interested in the "geneology "of the section,
you can click the link at the top of the page to take you to our family trees.
If any of the section "librarians" still has access to the old facebook group,
there were lists of the past Mother Merril and Clint Harris award winners, as well
as lists of the past Long Train dancers. I would love to get those lists on here if possible!
